Gallatin couple embrace ancient craft
by purchasing the 3B Silversmith business
A young Gallatin couple have taken over the very ancient art of silversmithing. Megan
and Robert Asher are the new owners of 3B Silversmiths at 211 N. Main Street in Gallatin.
The Ashers formally acquired the business on July 10, 2002, but have been operating it
since May, after previous owners Lester and Joyce Bartlett of Jameson decided to retire.
The store features belt buckles, key rings, money clips, jewelry, tie tacks, rings and
pendants, knives, Latter Day Saint items, and much more. Customers will find the same
great quality and craftsmanship as before at the same competitive prices.
3B Silversmiths prides itself on the handmade, heirloom quality of its work, where
nothing is machine made or stamped out. 3B products are solid metal, cut out by hand,
soldered by hand and engraved by hand. Nothing is plated, and all the work is guaranteed
for life.
Megan will be managing in the office and is teaching the ropes to her aunt, Julie
Tummons, who has worked there since September.
Megan says their motto is: We are only limited by your imagination and your
budget, pretty much captures the craft of making and repairing silver articles.
"Everything we make can be customized or personalized to your liking," said
Megan. "Bring in a picture of what you want on it, and we can pretty well do
it."
Robert has been employed at 3B since 1997 and has been doing most of the silversmithing
during that time. He taught himself to do the engraving.
3B will offer a newer selection of jewelry for sale in the front of the store,
including necklace chains and slides, pendants, rings, bracelets, and more.
"Weve modernized the style of some of the jewelry to appeal to younger
people," said Megan. "We have something for every age. We still also carry
Indian Jewelry and Black Hills Gold."
In addition to merchandise inside the store, 3B Silversmiths takes phone orders from
throughout the United States and Canada. Most of those orders are for awards and trophy
buckles for rodeos and other organizations.
The full-time staff at 3B Silversmiths also includes Donita and Bill Asher and Paul
Asher. Carl Asher has been working part time since 2000, and Lauren Henderson since
August, 2002.
Megan and Robert live in Gallatin and have two sons, Zackery, 4, and Chandler, 2. Megan
graduated from Gallatin and is the daughter of Debbie and Paul Carroll of Gallatin. Robert
graduated from Winston. He is the son of Donita and Bill Asher of Winston.
Megan and Robert Asher welcome you to call or stop by and visit 3B Silversmiths across
from Pamida in Gallatin (look for the wooden Indian, Kaw-Liga). The store is open from 8
a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
